An Alternative to the Exponential and Weibull Reliability Models

چکیده

The two reliability models most widely used in engineering applications are the exponential and Weibull. Both deficient because their failure rates do not conform to bathtub curve nor specify infant mortality period. In addition, Weibull require lifetime data which entails testing or field observations usually proprietary. advantage of model is that it can be supported by both MIL handbook data, latter being publicly available. this article, an alternative single parameter — called formulated whose rate conforms shape asymmetric curve. It shown that, unlike present multiparameter models, data. ramifications will demonstrated through three applied examples: engine fan, microcomputer, crystal oscillator. supportability claim substantiated constructing estimation procedure microcomputer oscillator examples. Calculations show predict twice as many fan failures article model. For example, gives one-half times faults.

Exponentiated Exponential Family: An Alternative to Gamma and Weibull Distributions

In this article we study some properties of a new family of distributions, namely Exponentiated Exponential distribution, discussed in Gupta, Gupta, and Gupta (1998). The Exponentiated Exponential family has two parameters (scale and shape) similar to a Weibull or a gamma family. It is observed that many properties of this new family are quite similar to those of a Weibull or a gamma family, th...

Bayesian reliability models of Weibull systems: State of the art

In the reliability modeling field, we sometimes encounter systems with uncertain structures, and the use of fault trees and reliability diagrams is not possible. To overcome this problem, Bayesian approaches offer a considerable efficiency in this context. This paper introduces recent contributions in the field of reliability modeling with the Bayesian network approach. Bayesian reliability mod...

The Marshall–olkin Exponential Weibull Distribution

A new four-parameter model called the Marshall–Olkin exponential– Weibull probability distribution is being introduced in this paper, generalizing a number of known lifetime distributions. This model turns out to be quite flexible for analyzing positive data. The hazard rate functions of new model can be increasing and bathtub shaped. Our main objectives are to obtain representations of certain...

Confidence limits for stress–strength reliability involving Weibull models

The problem of interval estimation of the stress–strength reliability involving two independent Weibull distributions is considered. An interval estimation procedure based on the generalized variable (GV) approach is given when the shape parameters are unknown and arbitrary. The coverage probabilities of the GV approach are evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation. Simulation studies show that the p...

Discriminating between Weibull and generalized exponential distributions

Recently the two-parameter generalized exponential (GE) distribution was introduced by the authors. It is observed that a GE distribution can be considered for situations where a skewed distribution for a non-negative random variable is needed. The ratio of the maximized likelihoods (RML) is used in discriminating between Weibull and GE distributions. Asymptotic distributions of the logarithm o...
